What We Do

"Sertoma" is an acronym of the words, Service to Mankind. Our international organization, similar to Lions, Kiwanis, and Rotary clubs, provides sponsorship of programs to aid the hearing impaired, and many other areas of need within the Tri-Lakes area, Colorado Springs and El Paso County. Our Club is based in the scenic Tri-Lakes area of El Paso County, Colorado. It has existed since the early 1970's within the South Colorado District of Sertoma's Rocky Mountain Region. Our 160+ members have raised over $100,000 during the past year to support our many sponsorships.

Follow the links in this section to get a flavor for how we work together to earn our funds . and what we do with them to benefit the community as a whole. Of course, we are not all work and no play, and we do have a varied social program which all of our members and their spouses enjoy. You can check out the latest in the Saturday Morning Bulletin.

Organization

The Club is organized as a Colorado nonprofit corporation and is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of ten officers and seven other directors. The organization and operation of the Club are subject to the Club's Articles of Incorporation, Constitution, Bylaws and Policies. Sertoma Emblem

History

The emblem is a badge of true fellowship, assistance, and friendship, and will always stand as an ever-present reminder of the great strength of those united. The Roman fasces illustrate the ancient lesson of the bundle of branches, which was impossible to break when bound together. It is the hope that Sertoma Clubs will be bound closely together in the spirit of cooperation, fellowship, and good will in Sertoma International, that they will be an unbreakable power for good, advancement, helpfulness, and strength in every community.

Each year the International President of Sertoma selects a theme or focus for the upcoming year. This year's International President, Sky Martin, has chosen the theme of Make it Happen. Sertoma International is embarking on an ambitious program that will restructure our organization. Over the last few years, our fourteen regions were reduced to eight and our identity is promoted through high visibility events that focus on our service to the speech and hearing impaired.

Sertoma Service 400 is the visionary plan to continue our organization's growth and service well into the twenty-first century. This growth concept builds Sertoma Clubs around a defined community need. Sertoma is primarily recognized for providing assistance to the speech and hearing impaired. Service to Mankind is provided through our organization to help meet any need we choose to tackle.

WELCOME TO THE MONUMENT HILL SERTOMA CLUB!

The Monument Hill Sertoma Club supports the Sertoma International focus and looks for opportunities to help people, primarily in the Tri-Lakes area, who need assistance in overcoming speech and hearing disorders. Additionally, we focus our energy on other projects that improve the quality of life in our community.

Sertoma International has over 20,000 members in over 650 clubs located in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. The greater Colorado Springs area is rich in Sertoma tradition and among the most active Sertoma communities in America. The Monument Hill Sertoma Club has over 165 members and enjoys a history of community service, excellent leadership, and great fellowship among our members. You have chosen a great way to help your community make life worthwhile for many of our friends and neighbors.

The Monument Hill Sertoma Club's meeting starts every Saturday at 8:00 AM at the Church at Woodmoor on Furrow Road. Members arrive between 7:00 and 7:45 for fellowship. Promptly at 8:00, the meeting begins with announcements to keep members informed of the latest activities, followed by a buffet breakfast, and then an interesting and informative program. We adjourn at 9:30 AM. We feature program speakers each week who address topics of interest to the members. The bulk of actual business for the Club is transacted at a monthly Board meeting. All members are invited and encouraged to attend these meetings.

We are an active club with a variety of fundraising, social, and community service activities going on throughout the year. Joining involves devoting some of your time to community service. By establishing the habit of putting two hours for Sertoma of every Saturday morning on your calendar, you will experience the great fellowship at our meetings and learn what service activities interest you. We believe Sertoma is an excellent and rewarding way of returning something to our community in
SERvice TO MAnkind!
